Everyone is welcome to the launch event for Gardens and Green Spaces in the West Midlands since 1700, edited by CPHC members Malcolm Dick and Elaine Mitchell. This new book is the first from West Midlands Publications, a brand new imprint of University of Hertfordshire Press.
Garden history is more than the study of individuals such as ‘Capability Brown’ who created estates for a wealthy élite. This book demonstrates a new approach the subject, and includes insights from geology and archaeology, the perspectives of social class and gender, the history of art and architecture, science, technology and literature, is changing our perspective so that we can see gardens and gardening within wider social, economic, political and cultural contexts.
Come and join us at the University of Birmingham for a special event to launch this major new study. There will be a chance to meet the editors and some of the contributors and also to learn more about the Green Heart project.
This special event will bring together various contributors to the book and give you the opportunity to hear more about the research that went into it. Refreshments will be served.
The event is free, but booking is necessary. Secure your place here.
