Georgina Grant
National Museums of Scotland
Georgina is Curator of Technology at National Museums Scotland. She is responsible for the technology collections, which cover a wide spectrum of objects relating to industry, engineering, communications, and agriculture. Highlights within the communication section include a Columbian printing press made by D. and J. Greig of Edinburgh, c. 1865; a rotary printing press invented by Thomas Nelson Jr. of Edinburgh in 1850, and exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition; and over 20,000 wood engraving blocks, many of which were created to print the illustrations in Chambers’ Encyclopaedia, which was first published in 1859. Prior to National Museums Scotland, Georgina was Senior Curator at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, where she worked for almost nine years. During that time, she developed a particular interest in nineteenth century iron foundry production, with a focus on decorative and architectural ironwork and associated trade literature.
